$237M Grand Hyatt opens at San Francisco airport

The 351-room Grand Hyatt at SFO, the only on-airport hotel at San Francisco International Airport, has opened. The airport owns the $237 million luxury hotel and Hyatt Hotels Corp. operates it.

Grand Hyatt at SFO features 18 event spaces, including a 5,760-square-foot ballroom, for a total of 14,435 square feet of meeting and event space. It offers two culinary concepts: a 108-seat signature restaurant and a multifunctional lounge with a 24/7 market and cocktail bar. The San Francisco Arts Commission also curated a 16-piece art collection for the hotel.

The hotel is directly connected to all airport terminals at SFO with its own dedicated, newly constructed AirTrain station. Travelers can reserve stays of six hours in the hotel’s day-use rooms with rates starting at $125.

The hotel anticipates receiving Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold certification in early 2020. Its design is in line with SFO’s plan to become the world’s first zero net energy airport campus by 2021. The hotel’s sustainability efforts include installing water-efficient systems, using regionally sourced building materials and generating 133,000 kWh of energy itself using roof-mounted photovoltaic panels.

The debut is part of Hyatt Hotels Corp.’s plan to add 40 new hotels in California, Oregon and Washington by the end of 2021. When Hyatt introduced the plan in late January, it had 89 properties open in the region. As of June 30, Hyatt Hotels Corp.’s portfolio included more than 875 properties in more than 60 countries.
